Place inquiry based Learning
front and center
Inquiry is active involvement in acquiring information. It puts information literacy to work and hones critical thinking skills. Inquiry based learning within a thoughtfully prepared learning environment is a powerful tool for helping students to construct new knowledge and fuse concepts and information into powerful component of learning. It is my preferred mode of instruction for topics in science, social studies, and literature. Another powerful plus of teaching through inquiry is the ability of the teacher to assemble a broad collection of text, digital, and experiential resources that individualize learning. Teaching through guided inquiry places the learner front and center in the learning process, and positions the teacher as Preparer of Learning, Guide on the Side, and Co-Synthesizer of Learning. And that's the configuration of 21st century learning.
